The two processes of on-site processing and finished product production have the following effects on the quality of SBS modified bitumen:


1. On-site processing technology: on-site processing technology does not need to add stabilizer, just heat preservation and stirring. The modified bitumen produced in this process can be stored in the storage tank with slight heat preservation and then input into the mixing house. Since there is no need to add stabilizer, the interface energy between the bitumen phase and the SBS phase can be reduced, and the adhesion between the two phases can be enhanced. However, the modified bitumen processed on site is prone to segregation during storage and transportation, that is, the bitumen is easy to precipitate in the lower part, which is unfavorable for the storage and long-distance transportation of the finished SBS modified bitumen.


2. Finished product production process: In the finished product production process, modified bitumen needs to be stored, transported and placed for a period of time. Because the bitumen contains more polar compounds, and SBS modifier is a non-polar compound, large viscosity, easy to concentrate in the upper part, so the bitumen is easy to precipitate in the lower part, resulting in segregation phenomenon. This instability is unfavorable for the storage and long distance transportation of finished SBS modified bitumen.


Therefore, in the production process of the finished product, the addition of stabilizer can reduce the interface energy between the bitumen phase and the SBS phase, enhance the adhesion between the two phases, so as to solve the segregation phenomenon. In order to choose a suitable process to produce modified bitumen that meets the requirements of the code, it is necessary to carry out experiments and selection according to the specific situation.
